The Old Bicycle Shop is a traditional Icelandic house right in the heart of Reykjavik's old quarter on a residential street with all of Reykjavik's attractions within the shortest walking distance. It is a home away from home – warm, cosy and welcoming.
At the Old Bicycle Shop we have a variety of sleeping options, a large family room, double, twin and single rooms.
Our prices at the Old Bicycle Shop vary seasonally, but in effect prices for single rooms range from US$110 per night for our little rooms in the off season to US$150for our larger single rooms in the summer (and can be up to US$150 for singles occupying a double room). Guests sharing double or larger rooms can pay from US$120per head in the off season to US$150 per head in the summer).
We always add an additional fee for preparation, linen and cleaning for each stay, so longer stays are better value and we offer 10 % discounts for stays of a week or more. Our linen is cleaned professionally.
VAT, room taxes and business taxes are very high here in Iceland, but we do not add these; they are incorporated into our prices. I can only apologise for the strength of the Icelandic Kroner against other world currencies at the moment. We charge in US$ because Airbnb and PayPal do not recognise the ISK, but that is the currency we live with and in which we have to meet our running costs.

Great location — The heart of Reykjavík
The Old Bicycle Shop is slap bang in the middle of the best part of town. The area is called Þingholtin and if you put Spítalastigur 8 (our address) into Google Maps you will find us sitting just above the city lake off the main shopping streets. One of the best restaurants in Reykjavík, Snaps is three houses to our right. In fact, we are surrounded by wonderful cafe’s, restaurants, bars, bakeries and shops, all within a 2 to 3 min walk. We are locals so know the area extremely well and give our guests tips and recommendations regarding all the best spots in Reykjavik and beyond. We hope to offer a different experience to a standard hotel, more homely and much more authentically Icelandic.
The lakeside cottage nestles at the foot of Medalfell mountain right
down at the water´s edge.
The views are spectacular, of the lake and its surrounding mountain scape. It is a tranquil place. It has 3 bedrooms and an open plan kitchen and sitting room.
It is right on the lake with the garden down to the shoreline. The cottage is cosy and homely and it is only a 30 min drive from Reykjavik.
The lakeside is lush with greenery and in parts is beautifully wooded. There is a little cafe by the lake which sells general groceries and serves food, mainly burgers. It also has a bar. It is only open in the summer months. The lakeside has a little community of cottages and is surrounded by farms.
Low season (October—April): US $135 per night (minimum stay 3 days)
